Lisbon offers Luanda increased military cooperation
6/3/2010

The head of the Portuguese army has discussed increased military cooperation with Angola during a visit to Luanda, local media reported last week.

Daily ‘Jornal de Angola’ said Gen. José Luís Pinto Ramalho, in Luanda last week, had held talks with his Angolan counterpart, Gen. Jorge Barros Gutu, and with Defence Minister Cândido Van-Dunem, both sides expressing the wish for bolstered military cooperation. “I’m here to strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation between Portugal and Angola that date back several years”, the newspaper quoted Gen. Pinto Ramalho as saying. It cited Gen. Barros Gutu as calling for more cooperation between the two armies, especially for additional Portuguese aid in officer training.
