Tigers skinned by Nuts – Gladiators get the Thumbs Down from Greens

Another series of mid-week fixtures as the championship draws to its’ conclusion. Second placed ABC Cats were at home to the PDF Sinners and anxious to make up ground on the Alvor Greens. The Cats duly obliged with a stunning 74-30 victory and the full eight points. Unfortunately for them, the Greens were playing Alvor Gladiators and were in no mood to give ground, the Greens also winning handsomely by 75-26 and pocketing all the eight points. Alvor Harlequins continued their quest for a high league placing with a 52-40 victory over the Alvor Amigos. Harlequins took six points to the Amigos two. The final match of the series saw Tavira Tigers at home to the Amendoeira Nuts. Tigers had an unhappy day losing 61-43 and dropping all the points to the resurgent Nuts.

Harlequins Bury the Nuts, Gladiators Put Sinners to the Sword

Yet another grey and overcast Saturday morning for round twenty of the championship. PDF Sinners were the home side against the visiting Alvor Gladiators, keen to press their claim to the runners – up spot in the table. A tight and tense match saw the Gladiators sneak home by just one shot, 49-48 however the Sinners shared the points four apiece. Another team fighting for the second slot are the Alvor Harlequins who travelled to face the Amendoeira Nuts. Harlequins also maintained their push with a very good 59-46 victory and six points to two. Albufeira Cats have faded a little recently, having been well up in contention with the table topping Greens for most of the season. However they got back on track today with a 62-48 win and a valuable six points against two for the visiting Valverde Vikings.

The Alvor Greens made the long trip to Pedras Panthers, seeking to consolidate their grip on the championship. Panthers however were in no mood to roll over and only just lost a very close match by 50-47, the points again being shared four each. The final match was between the Tavira Tigers and Valverde Vulcans, however the bad weather forced a postponement. The net result of all these games is that Alvor Greens have now sealed the championship with two games to go, being twenty points ahead of the Cats with only sixteen available. Greens have 129 points and the Cats have 109. Crusaders cling on to third with 99 points, Harlequins are in close attendance on 96. Gladiators are fifth with 86 and Vikings now have 80 points. Panthers move up to seventh on 75, just ahead of the Tigers on 74. Amigos have 66, Sinners have 59, Nuts are on 53 and the Vulcans remain on 24 points.
