New Volkswagen Sharan to be built in Portugal

The Autoeuropa factory in Palmela will be the exclusive manufacturer of the new Volkswagen Sharan, according to a source from Autoeuropa, as well as the Seat Alhambra model.

The news was formally announced on Monday, on the eve of the inauguration of the Geneva Motorshow, where the new generation Sharan was presented to the world.

The factory will be receiving its new tools for the production line in April, according to Carmo Jardim, Public Relations of Autoeuropa.

This is a breath of fresh air for the Autoeuropa factory, as the production of a new model will keep employees jobs, as well as create more. In 2010 the Palmela factory is estimated to build 93,000 vehicles (8,000 more than in 2009). It will be producing the Sharan, Alhambra, Eos and Scirocco.
