Hand grenade washes ashore in Lagos

A hand grenade used in military exercises was found on Lagos Nautical Club’s small beach on Sunday morning.

The Chief Naval Officer of Lagos, Cruz Martins, explained that he received a phone call on Sunday at 08h45. The Navy proceeded to the Lagos Nautical Club and confirmed the presence of a military hand grenade near the pier. “Taking all precautionary measures, the area was cordoned off and the Maritime Police and Naval explosive experts removed the grenade, taking it to the Navy’s headquarters” added Cruz Martins.

The military training hand grenade was disabled on Monday morning.
