Take cover before you hit the slopes

Post Office Travel says medical bills accounted for 75 percent of ski holiday claims last season, so skiers who travel uninsured or with limited cover take a big risk with their finances.

The Post Office says a dislocated hip costs around €12,000, a fractured leg in Europe up to €10,000, and France, Austria and Switzerland are the top countries for claims. Travellers who expect the European Health Insurance Card to cover costs could have a nasty shock, as it won’t cover the cost of repatriation, private treatment or personal baggage/ski equipment.
