24/7/2010
HE The Portuguese Ambassador, António Santana Carlos, gave a reception recently at his beautiful residence in Belgrave Square, London, for members of the Anglo-Portuguese Society following their Annual General Meeting.

In its quest to promote a wider knowledge of Portuguese culture and history in the UK the Society has increased its membership to over 500 and continues with an active programme of 12–14 events a year covering art, literature, music and history. The Ambassador congratulated the outgoing Chairman, Gavin Trechman, on the Society’s achievements and in recognition of his work in promoting Anglo-Portuguese relations. He used the occasion to award Gavin Trechman the Portuguese Medal of Merit. In response Gavin Trechman said that he had thoroughly enjoyed his time as Chairman and expressed his sincere appreciation for the award. He also thanked his colleagues on the Executive Committee and all the members for their support and extended his good wishes to the Chairman-elect, Ben Millington Buck. Those UK citizens residing in Portugal who visit London regularly, will find the Society has an extremely interesting programme of events to which they are most welcome.
