The Romanian national, Grigore Ciorba, who turned 57 on the day of his disappearance, reportedly fell from the cliffs on Saturday morning after a night of fishing and has not been seen since.
Authorities were alerted to his fall at around 12.30pm on Saturday lunchtime, by a friend of the fisherman’s.
The witness, a Moldovan fisherman aged around 70, is said to have told authorities his friend slipped and fell into the sea. The older Moldovan allegedly also claimed he jumped into the water to try and save his friend, but was unable to do so.
However, according to Lusa News Agency, the long period between the occurrence and the authorities being alerted, of almost five hours, coupled with “confused statements,” saw the PJ police being drafted in, who are investigating the incident.
Mr. Ciorba’s family had made a cake for him, for when he returned home after his fishing jaunt, and laid it on the cliffs from where he fell.
