Albufeira has most Blue Flags in Portugal

Last Wednesday, on 12 June, an official Blue Flag-hoisting ceremony took place on Praia da Rocha Baixinha in the presence of Albufeira Environmental Councillor José Sequeira, regional coordinator for the European Blue Flag, Élia Cabrita, and Navy representative Lieutenant Pinto Alves.
The trio individually toured the awarded beaches before regrouping at the end of the afternoon on Santa Eulália beach to jointly hoist the last flag.
That same day a number of ‘Accessible Beach’ flags were also hoisted to indicate wheel-chair and disabled-friendly beaches. Albufeira has 12 accessible beaches, a number that over recent years has steadily grown;. This is a reflection of the hard work in improving infrastructures to remove obstacles for those with limited mobility , made by local authorities.
Nineteen of Albufeira’s beaches were awarded a Blue Flag (Salgados,Galé West, Galé East, Manuel Lourenço, Evaristo, Castelo, Coelha, São Rafael, Arrifes, Aveiros, Oura, Oura East, Santa Eulália, Maria Luísa, Olhos de Água, Barranco das Belharucas, Falésia Alfamar, Rocha Baixinha West and Rocha Baixinha East), as well as its Marina.
