The Alentejo Wine Route oversees the promotion together with a dozen wine tourism units and support of the Regional Tourism Entity (ERT) of Alentejo and Ribatejo.

The head of Portugal's Alentejo Regional Winegrowing Commission (CVRA), Francisco Mateus, said that “the event is the most important one in the country regarding tourism.”

The Travel Market is to take place at the Lisbon International Fair (FIL) in Parque das Nações.

“It is a crucial opportunity where the promotion of wines and the practice of wine tourism meets professionals of the area and tourists and where it is possible to show the essence of the region and all the characteristics that make it one of the most desired touristic destinations in the country,” Mateus said.

According to the commission, Alentejo wines are sold to 115 international markets, and the quantity exported “tripled in the last ten years.”

Brazil, Angola, the US, Switzerland and Poland are part of the “top 5” «importing countries.
