Last year approximately €400,000 was spent on Christmas lights in Portugal’s southernmost region; this year the Algarve’s councils will be spending around €100,000 more.
Albufeira will be spending the most on its festive illumination, followed by Faro, and Portimão.
Many town halls throughout the country will be having their official ‘switching on’ ceremony, today.
