According to newspaper Jornal de Notícias, doctors from the north are ‘rescuing’ the south’s service by using low-cost domestic flights between Porto and Faro, to cover ER shifts in the Algarve’s Hospital’s at weekends. The newspaper states the doctors benefit from special subsistence allowances, ranging from €50 to €200, under a special partial mobility scheme set up in 2015 for doctors working in two or more public services, stretching over 60 kilometres.
