The advisory, which is the second highest, will remain in place until 1pm today, after which it will be reduced to a Yellow Alert.

Faro District is also on Yellow Alert due to strong winds, with gusts of between 75 and 95 kilometres an hour forecast in places.

The same advisory is also in place due to stormy seas, where waves are forecast to reach five metres.

The warnings comes after several reports of flooding in a number of Algarve cities on Monday afternoon and evening.
