Located in the Pinheiros de Marim Sports and Leisure Park, the 4,000-square-metre facility represents an investment of €69,000.
Speaking at its inauguration, Olhão Mayor, António Miguel Pina, said: “This is a space especially for our four-legged friends, which offers lots of activities, in a privileged spot for leisure.”
During the inauguration, the Mayor also said he would soon be making a presentation of the new municipal kennel.
The Dog Park is fully enclosed, so animals can be let off the lead, and also comprises equipment such as tunnels, hoops, see-saws and jump poles, a fresh water dispenser and doggie bags.
In future, the area will also be used for awareness campaigns and adoption drives.
While entry is free, a set of rules have been imposed for the park’s use, which should be observed by all who visit.
Among them, rules state that those who accompany the animal must be aged 16 or over; dogs must be aged four months or over with up-to-date vaccinations; dogs considered dangerous or potentially dangerous are not allowed to use the facility, nor can dogs who are sick or undergoing treatment; and it is compulsory for owners to clean up after their dogs.
