The largest number of rescissions was at Novo Banco. Even though this bank has not yet presented results from the first nine months up until August, 400 employees had left the bank which now belong to Lone Star, the workers’ commission told Lusa News Agency.

At the BPI bank 347 employees left up until September, most of them under a mutual termination and early retirement process agreement organised by the Spanish group Caixabank when it took over the bank.

At the state-owned Caixa Geral de Depositos bank 298 resigned between the months of January and September, at Santander Totta 269 people left within the first nine months of the year, while at BCP 52 resigned until September.

In the last few years banks have been reducing their employees to cut costs and improve profits.
