Boavista back in the top flight

The Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) decision to promote Boavista back into the Primeira Liga following several judicial reviews has caused a few raised eyebrows and means that the Oporto based club will leap two divisions.

Boavista were relegated from the top flight five years ago, for allegedly intimidating referees, and saw the club fall into a grey period of gloom and uncertainty.
The league will increase to eighteen teams and although the LPEP decision needs to be ratified, there is little doubt that Boavista, and their famous black and white shirts, will be back in the big time where they won the league title in 2000/01.

How Boavista will be able to integrate at the top level is a serious question but having a ‘big’ club back in the Primeira Liga is certainly an exciting prospect.
