The Briton reportedly fell into the water as the result of a prank during the cruise on Saturday lunchtime (16 July). It is understood he immediately disappeared after being pulled under by the strong current.

Maritime Police said on Friday night (22 July) the man’s body had been found near the Belem Tower in an “advance state of decomposition.”

Police confirmed it was the body of the missing Briton. An investigation is ongoing and the body has been sent on for autopsy.

A probe carried out by the authorities, which included witness reports, saw the friend involved in the prank made an official suspect in proceedings, but it is understood he is free to leave the country.
Reports in the British media claim the man was part of a party of 12 Britons and one Australian, who were in Lisbon for a stag do.
Quoting sources close to the case, The Sun ran suggestions the missing Briton was the groom’s best man, and, according to the piece, he was pushed into the water while “unconscious and without a life jacket.”
