Speaking to Lusa news agency, the captain of the Captaincy of the Port of Aveiro, Humberto Silva Rocha, said that the body appeared next to the fishermen's wharf in Costa Nova.

According to the same official, the body was found by the dredge master who is doing dredging in that area of ??the Aveiro estuary.

The corpse has already been removed from the water, having subsequently been transported to the Medical-Legal Office of Aveiro.

The young man of about 20 years old, born in Gafanha da Nazaré, in Ílhavo, had been missing since last Tuesday (12 May).

The victim was bathing in the sea with a cousin and a friend when they were dragged by a wave. The cousin and his friend were rescued alive by surfers who were in the area.

At this time of year, the beach has no lifeguards, because the bathing season has not yet started.
