The shot reportedly entered the bus through the main front doors and whizzed past the driver’s eyes.
Speaking to newspaper Correio da Manhã, driver Vítor Ferreira said “it only missed me by a bit.”
He claims three men crossed in front of the bus, climbed a flight of stairs to a nearby building, turned around and shot at the vehicle, which was transporting six people at the time on a routine journey between Benfica and the Dolce Vita Tejo shopping centre.
Mr. Ferreira recalls the shot went in through the bus’s doors and out of the driver’s window and two of the perpetrators had their heads covered with hoodies.
Despite some of the passengers revolting against the shooters, the driver claims he continued his journey to the shopping centre as normal, and there reported the incident to the police.
Highlighting concerns for drivers’ safety on such routes, he stresses it is not the first time shots have been fired in that area, and it is “very lucky” no one was hurt.
PJ police are investigating.
