According to the statment issued by the Cabinet, the Government nominated "Francisco Gonçalves de Lima, Carlos Manuel Matias Coimbra and Maria João Tavares Zilhão, respectively, for the positions of chairman and directors," of INE.

The new chairman selected by the Government will replace Alda Carvalho, who was at the helm of the INE for 12 years and whose term ended on 31 December, when she was about to turn 70, the age limit for public duties, a Cabinet source told Lusa last week.

At the time, the Cabinet said that the new Governing Board would take office when the opinion of the Committee on Recruitment and Selection of Public Administration (CRESAP) was issued, "and when all other necessary legal formalities have been completed."

Following the departure of Alda Carvalho, INE has been managed by the remaining current members of the Board until the appointment of the new leaders.
