Child obesity dropping in Portugal

The percentage of obese children between the ages of 6 and 8 decreased in Portugal in 2016, according to the Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative (COSI).

Child obesity dropping in Portugal

The initiative provides a system of data that measures trends in children’s weight and in Portugal it is conducted by the National Health Institute Dr. Ricardo Jorge (INSA) with the Directorate-General for Health (DGS). The Algarve, Madeira and Azores regions registered the highest percentage of underweight children, while the Azores was the region with the highest percentage of obesity.
