The deal went down for £921 million (nearly €1.09 billion), international news agencies said last Wednesday and covers the acquisition of the British group that owns 242 cinemas and 2,236 screens in Europe.
The CEO of the AMC Group, Adam Aron, who announced the terms of the final agreement of the purchase of Odeon & UCI Cinemas, told reporters that the deal was aided by the devaluation of the pound following the Brexit vote.
In Portugal, UCI Cinemas owns 45 cinema rooms with a total of 9,279 seats, in well-known spots such as UCI El Corte Inglés, Dolce Vita Tejo and Arrábida Shopping. It had gross takings of just over €8 million in 2015, with 68,732 cinema sessions and 1.5 million customers, which is about 11 percent of the Portuguese market.
