The government is introducing a new experimental scheme in certain areas which would see civil servants who are off sick for two consecutive days and up to seven days a year no longer require a medical certificate to justify their absence.

The measure is part of a Civil Service Workplace Health and Safety Action Plan to be implemented by 2020.
