So why fiddle with a winning formula? He’s a golfer, an enormously competitive one to boot, so to strive for something better is natural. Layer on top the need to change the technique to fit a nearly forty something body, then the changes Tiger is going through begin to look more necessary than an idle exercise in tampering.
Yet golf being golf, it always gives you scope for improvement, the “what if that putt had gone in”, the “if only I had not hit that shot” scenario will always haunt a round’s post mortem. Striving for better whilst maintaining a winning capability is a very precarious tightrope to walk. If you decide to walk the rope you could lose all the feel of the movement, which got you into your winning position. Alternatively, if you stick with what you have, your competitors may catch you! This delicate balance has been the downfall of many a professional and thousands of amateurs.
This is where the correct guidance and direction is vital. Somebody to show you the path to the promised land where pars and the occasional birdie live.
Week in and week out on television you hear the victor extending his thank yous to his or her team. This team usually consists of; a manager, a specialist in fitness, performance psychologist, physiotherapist, nutritionist, long game coach and short game coach. That’s a lot of mouths to feed but, if their combined efforts reduce the player’s stroke average by a shot, it could be worth millions.
For the Amateur golfer it is actually very easy to play better golf. What’s more alarming, is that it doesn’t have to cost the earth either.
If I said that to reduce your score (I’m assuming you are playing off a 12 handicap or more) by five shots in twelve months and then a further three shots the next year would not be a big deal, you would think I am crazy. If I told you that it would cost about the same as a green fee, you may think deluded is a more appropriate description. Trust me, I’m a Professional, it can be done.
It can be done if you have €67.50 available to buy into the six hour process.
This amount of development is possible because an inordinate amount of a coach’s time is spent covering the fundamentals. It doesn’t seem to matter if the player is a beginner, intermediate or advanced, the same tendencies occur and if they are not addressed at address, the swing will follow a number of faulty movements.
This strikes me as an enormously inefficient use of time and money for the player and the coach. So, the plan is to give you the blueprint to great fundamentals for; long game, short game, bunkers, pitching and a positive shot routine. These are then adopted through gentle practice drills over the six week period.
As efficiency is our friend and waste our enemy, the instruction will be held in a group of no more than ten. One of the advantages of being instructed in a group is that at least you know you are not the only one who has been suffering. Alongside the coaching, you will have access to our balance tracking Force Plate and Launch Monitor technology, so that every aspect of your experience is based on fact, not opinion.
It is a very simple process. It requires you to conceptually change the way you think about golf by playing to your strengths and minimising your weaknesses. The good news is that 80% of the fundamentals occur before the club is taken back. For example, alignment, posture, grip and a good tactical decision will go a long way to a good golf shot. Do this every time and you will see your shots improve and your scores dramatically lowered.
Our new Pestana Golf Academy, based at Vila Sol, will be hosting weekly coaching sessions where you can try a one hour taster session from €10.00 or plug into a six week programme, described previously for €67.50.
