“For Zalando, it is important to have people specifically working on a determined product or market,” the head of Innovation and Partnership, Marc Lamiz, said.
However this does not mean the company is going to start operating in Portugal. The objective is to work from Lisbon with the 15 countries that Zalando operates in. The Portuguese capital has the best atmosphere to install this centre, he added.
The technological centre aims to improve its shopping experience by improving the offer in products in its online store, and the information available to customers, giving them an upgrade when searching, he added.
He has not established a value in price but is focused instead on hiring the best professionals and giving them the best possible conditions, he added.
The exact location of the centre has not yet been identified, but is going to be somewhere with easy access to the city.
Zalando was founded in 2008, in Berlin and links clients, brands and partners of 15 European countries.
In 2016, the company made a profit of €3.6 billion, had around 70 million orders and had 21 million active customers this year. It has currently more than 12,000 employees, 1,800 of whom are in the technology area.
