Consumer credit granted in 2018 rose 10 percent

The total amount of consumer credit granted in 2018 in Portugal rose 10 percent compared to the previous year to €7.35 billion, according to figures released late last week by the Bank of Portugal.

The central bank’s latest figures on new consumer credit reveal that new car loans rose to €3.12 billion last year, corresponding to over 42 percent of the total consumer credit granted and registered a rise of 12 percent compared to 2017.

Personal loans amounted to almost €3.16 billion, 11.8 percent more than the previous year.
