Crisis reduced road deaths

The dramatic reduction in the number of road deaths in Portugal has been partly attributed to the financial crisis.

Between 2011 and 2015, Portugal witnessed double-digit decreases in fatalities, though this started changing last year, with numbers rising.

According to the National Road Safety Authority, the aim remains to see accidents, injuries and deaths drop in the coming years.

Latest figures show road deaths have fallen about seven percent on last year but remain about ten percent above figures from 2016.
