In the western end of the Algarve, health centres have been working longer hours since 18 December.
In the Eastern end, the new timetables are to come into effect as of this week.
The National Health Service (SNS) has also asked people who think they might be suffering from the flu to contact the national health helpline, 800 24 24 24, before going to emergency wards.
