Portuguese economy minister, Manuel Caldeira Castro, said this week at the Web Summit that Portugal would be happy to welcome companies leaving Catalonia in Spain because of the political crisis, and those leaving the United Kingdom because of Brexit.

He added these companies would find Portugal a tolerant and open-to-business country, as well as competitive in terms of costs, the quality of technological infrastructures and workers. The Minister further revealed car manufacturers such as Mercedes and Volkswagen are hoping to make major investments in Portugal.
