Pestana Vila Sol plays host to EDGA’s flagship event and the final championship of the 14-tournament season for golfers with a disability – who compete under the slogan ‘Golfers First’.
These skilful and passionate golfers play the game internationally to a high standard and shoot birdies and eagles despite their disabilities in a season of tournaments all over Europe and further afield.
This season finished with a final practice day on Thursday, 23 November, before a two-day tournament over the beautiful but challenging Vila Sol course.
Seventy international players – the largest field of the year – will be present for the EDGA Algarve Open, which is always supported by the Algarve Tourism Association.
Spectators are welcome to make their way to Pestana Vila Sol and watch and cheer on the players, while golf club members are acting as volunteers to support the running of the tournament.
EDGA is supported by The R&A, the European Tour, the Ryder Cup European Development Trust and 23 of Europe’s national Golf Federations, plus several valued partners including PING and the Algarve Tourism Association.
So it is serious golf, but not too serious, there is usually a smile and a cheer or two as the birdie putts go in.
