A long-term Algarve expat has “lost everything” in the Monchique wildfire, being one of numerous families who have seen their homes and lifelong belongings perish in the inferno.
Mirjiam Seybold da Silva, who has lived in Corte Grande, near Picota, Monchique, for 20-years, says she and her family have lost “everything” in the blaze.
“My parents have lived there for 35 years and I’ve lived there 20 years. We have lost everything. Clothes, furniture, everything was destroyed. The house was completely burned out, the windows burst, and the roof came in”, Miriam told The Portugal News on Wednesday.
