Firefighting aircraft can refuel at air force bases - Minister

Portugal’s internal affairs minister, Eduardo Cabrita, said on Monday that privately owned firefighting aircraft would be allowed to refuel at air force bases, but it was not mandatory.

Portuguese daily paper the ‘Jornal de Notícias’ wrote that the Portuguese air force would begin providing fuel for private operators who were fighting wildfires.
The private operators could refuel at the military bases and the bill would be sent to the national civil protection authority.

There are now a total of 45 aircraft available to fight fires in Portugal, the secretary of state of civil protection told parliament on 15 June.
