Aljezur, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, Tavira, Alcoutim and Castro Marim have all been placed on the second highest level of alert due to the prevaling weather conditions.

This comes as the Portuguese government has again extended the critical period of wild fires until 23 November.

This is the fourth occasion the period has been extended after originally being scheduled to culminate at the end of September.
