Ricardo Salgado was first questioned on Friday by Judge Carlos Alexandre, after having been interviewed at the beginning of last week by the public prosecutor’s office as part of the investigation into the “Espírito Santo Universe”.
The attorney general said “six people have been questioned under caution” on suspicions of “forgery, computer forgery, qualified fraud, abuse of trust, tax fraud, private sector corruption and money laundering”.
Salgado’s lawyer said he would be appealing against the house arrest.
Strangely, Salgado was not required to wear an ankle bracelet to ensure he did not leave his residence, but police officers have been stationed outside the two main entries to his large estate.
