He was originally accused of five counts of the crime, which were allegedly carried out between 1998 and 2009 when Correia was head of Tavira council.
At the crux of the matter were illegalities found in proceedings relating to building licenses issued for areas classed as National Ecological Reserves (REN).
Only Portuguese law would allow a sentence to be suspended for multiple crimes.
