The authority said that three deaths occurred on beaches without lifeguards and one on a river beach with a guard.
The case on the river beach took place at the river in Foz do Lizandro, near Mafra. The victim was a six-year-old Portuguese boy.
These figures are exactly the same as last year, when there were also 4 deaths, one on a beach with lifeguards but that death was due to sudden illness. The figures are better than 2013 when there were 11 deaths, two on beaches with
lifeguards.
