The reduction was however only in the region of half a cent for diesel and unleaded fuel, leaving the price of petrol higher than it was at the end of last year.
The average cost of diesel is now just under 1 euro and 32 cents a litre, while unleaded petrol retails at around 1 euro and 51 cents.
According to figures from Brussels, unleaded fuel in Portugal is the seventh most expensive in the EU, while diesel prices are the sixth highest in Europe.
