Golf tourism responsible for nearly 17,000 Algarve jobs

Golf tourism in the Algarve generated about €500 million in 2017 and created or kept 16,800 jobs a study by the Algarve Tourist Authority (ATA) said earlier this week.

The tourist chairman said the results proved that golf was an extremely important sector in Portugal and particularly in the Algarve”.
The Algarve is currently responsible for about 70 percent of the rounds of golf in Portugal with more than 1.3 million rounds in 2017 alone.

The authority also said that 87 percent of the players who were asked said they had played in the Algarve before, proving how satisfied the tourists were.
Almost three-quarters of the players (73 percent) were British, a figure that is directly related with the number of flights between the British market and the south of Portugal.
