His creativity and love of “fixing things” soon led him to be known as a “handyman” plus being the mainstay of the scenery and prop building team backstage in the Algarveans Theatre Group. (He also ran a well stocked bar on theatre nights!)
His imagination, when constructing unusual props, knew no bounds and he was always collecting “stuff” for future possible use, much to his dear wife, Jenny’s, despair. His shed was never big enough and his creations needed more space to be born – a “turn of the century” tripod camera, pirate lanterns that lit, a ship’s wheel, a grand piano, angel’s wings, a glowing fire, hanging pictures and a chandelier in a palace, Cinderella’s carriage - the list is endless.
His relationship with Jenny Grainer began in the 80’s, blossomed into a loving partnership and a happy marriage that has endured 18 years. Gordon has been battling a long illness and his suffering ended on 30 June at 3.15 am.
He will be so sadly missed by anyone who knew him. I’m sure he is already fixing things up in Heaven. His funeral will take place in the chapel of Convento S. José in Lagoa on Friday, 3 July at 10am.
God Bless him and comfort his beloved family.
