The incident happened on Sunday while the dog was out on a walk with its owner in the mountainous terrain of Sendim, Moimenta da Beira.
The hapless animal fell 60 metres down a vertiginous escarpment along the Távora River.
Police were called by the animal’s frantic owner and promptly responded.
Due to the challenging and hard-to-access terrain, covered with dense vegetation, a specialist Mountain Search and Rescue Unit (GIPS) was employed.
The dog was successfully rescued and found to have suffered a few scratches, was dehydrated and hungry, but otherwise well and was reunited with its owner.
