in Regional · 01-03-2018 13:13:00 · 0 Comments

A harbour pilot from the port of Lisbon died in the early hours of Wednesday morning after falling into the sea while disembarkin g from a ship off Cascais bay.

The pilot was getting off the Hapag-Lloyd ship, the ‘Singapore Express’, and back onto a cutter, when he fell into the water and died, despite attempts to rescue him.
Navy spokesman, Pedro Coelho Dias, told Lusa News Agency that the cutter crew were unable to reach the pilot immediately because of four-metre waves, but managed to recover his body.
Six ports in mainland Portugal were closed on Wednesday and another five were under restrictions because of the rough seas.
