According to a statement released today by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), until Tuesday, mainland Portugal will continue “with temperatures above normal for the month of May, with maximum temperature values ??ranging between 30ºC and 35ºC in the interior regions, and between 22ºC and 30ºC in the rest of the country”.

In relation to the minimum temperature, in general, “it will have values ??between 15ºC and 18ºC, but from the weekend the continental territory will be“ under the influence of an easterly winds”.

This current will lead to a “slight rise in temperature values”, particularly on the west coast.

As of Sunday (May 24), maximum temperatures are expected to rise, generally with values ??above 30ºC, which will be “more significant” on the west coast.

In Alentejo, the highest maximum temperature values ??are forecast during these days (37ºC).

"The minimum temperature will rise slightly, and it is expected that, starting on Saturday, May 23, some places on the continent will register values ??equal to or higher than 20ºC¸ resulting in tropical nights", concludes the note.
