Operated by Thomson Airways, one of the largest charter flight companies in the world, belonging to the TUI group, the flight landed in the Algarve having flown in from London Gatwick.
Aviation enthusiasts will be happy to know that the 324-seat cutting edge aircraft will be making the flight every Sunday.
Faro Airport said the operation is of “great importance to the Algarve as Thomson has stood out over the past two decades for having a history of carrying more than four million passengers to and from Faro.”
Faro is also Thomson’s most sought-after summer destination for 2016, and during the upcoming period the company is expected to grow by more than 40 percent, with 100,000 available seats to southern Portugal.
TUI was among the first companies in the world to take delivery of the long-range, mid-size, wide-body Dreamliner, having received its first 787 in 2013.
The Dreamliner is Boeing’s most fuel-efficient airliner and pioneers with the use of composite materials as the primary material in the construction of its airframe.
The 787 was designed to be 20 percent more fuel-efficient than the Boeing 767, which it was intended to replace.
The 787 Dreamliner’s distinguishing features include mostly electrical flight systems, swept wingtips, and noise-reducing chevrons on its engine nacelles. It shares a common type rating with the larger Boeing 777 to allow qualified pilots to operate both models.
Thomson also flies to Faro from Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Doncaster, Dublin, Nottingham, East Midlands, Exeter, Glasgow, London Luton, Manchester, Newcastle and London Stansted.
