Hospitals in Portugal are to receive early this year their first ever plasma-derived medicinal products from voluntary blood donations.

The Portuguese Blood and Transplantation Institute announced today that the medicines, derived from plasma obtained from blood samples collected in Portugal, is part of the institute’s strategy to make the most of the country’s voluntary blood donations.

It concludes the first phase of the national strategic plan for plasma fractionation, with 30,000 litres of plasma collected by the institute’s network.
