Household earnings still below 2008 levels

Portugal is one of the few countries where household earnings are still under 2008 levels, the European Commission (EC) said on Monday in a report on employment and the social situation in the European Union.

Today’s report said that the financial situation of EU families continued to improve at about 1.5% a year driven by higher wages and that almost all Member State countries had seen household income go up except Portugal, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Spain and Holland.

The biggest drops in unemployment were in Portugal, which fell 2.4% to 7.8% and Greece, which dropped 2.7% to 20.7%.
