How do you strike the ball?

Rory McIlroy was recently asked in a TV interview, “So Rory, what does it feel like to hit the ball 325 yards down the middle?” to which he replied with a wry grin, “Normal”. Which kind of gives you the impression that the Tour Pros know that they are in a different world when it comes to striking the ball, when compared to the average club golfer.

It also reminds me of a story a friend of mine told me a couple of years ago; he is a member at a club called Black Creek in Chattanooga, which used to host a event where Bubba Watson would be often found competing. He once played in a Pro-Am with my friend and after dispatching a ball 247 yards (in the air) with a four iron, he was asked “How did you do that?” His reply, “I choke down a little and make a three quarter swing.”
These guys spend hours, days even, with their club sponsors, manufacturers, making sure that they are getting the maximum air time, spin rate and control from their equipment. They know that if they used clubs which are more than five years old they would be at a significant disadvantage. Yes, their club head speed is faster than yours, the point being that even with the same speed, the club five years ago would not perform at the same level.
The inverse is true here too. If your clubs are not fitted specifically for you or are older than five years old, then you are literally leaving yourself with longer shots into the green and having to take a five iron rather than a seven iron to get to that green.

Have a good look at your clubs - yes they have been loyal (or have they?). Now is the best time to be making a change; winter is coming so you have plenty of time to practice and break in a new set. We have all the top brands, with the only modular system in the Algarve, which pairs the best performing shafts with the most powerful heads, so that you can hit it further and straighter.
