According to Lusa News Agency large gatherings of passengers formed both inside and outside the building as an unclaimed bag caused a confusion that led to check in desks closing.
The incident is understood to have happened at around 8.30 but 45 minutes later things were gradually returning to normal.
Between those times the entrance to the terminal is said to have been blocked by police.
Lusa reports passengers claim no information was given as to why the action was being taken and no official statement has been made by airport managers ANA as yet.
I was stuck at the airport from 1400 the day before due to the strike. After hours of trying to get on a stanby we had to pay for another flight from terminal 2. The police refused to let me out of the door to get to trminal 2, even though the area where we were "penned in" was not near the suspect baggage. I explained that my flight was due to depart and all my family were in terminal 2 waiting for me. No one helped, assisted or advised. 4.5 hours trying to get through security the day before and then having to sleep on the airport floor all night! Total chaos and the police and airport workers had no clue as to what they were doing. No explanations, nothing. Airport should be cloed down for poor management.
