Work at the site has been ongoing since the beginning of this month but only this week was an official ceremony for the laying of the first stone held.
Present at the ceremony were Christiane Thomas, Retail Manager of IKEA Portugal, and Richard Vathaire, director of IKEA Centres Portugal and Spain.
Government representatives and local authority executives and dignitaries also attended the ceremony.
The Swedish DIY multinational’s €200 million project in Portugal comprises an IKEA store, a shopping centre and an outlet, which is expected to create around 3,000 direct and indirect jobs.
