The Portuguese healthcare regulator Infarmed moved to suspend administration of the vaccine Infanrix Tetra following serious adverse reactions in three children, a source told Lusa News Agency on Friday.

“On Thursday, Infarmed received reports of three cases of adverse reaction to the vaccine Infanrix Tetra, indicated for boosting immunisation against the diseases of diphtheria, tetanus, convulsive coughing and poliomyelitis in children between the ages of 16 months and 13 years” said the unnamed source.
The children were reportedly left in severe pain, with their arms badly swollen 48-hours from having received the vaccine and hence the Infarmed decision to suspend any further administration of the vaccine Infanrix Tetra, lot no. AC20B268AB, expiry date 31-07-2015.

Infarmed added that the lot had now been collected by the regulator and would be subject to analysis but called on all parents and guardians to report any and all secondary effects taking place two to three days after vaccination.
