According to INE, “rounded to one decimal place, this rate coincides with the value of the quick estimate published on 28 February,” although the final rate is 0.4 percentage points lower than the previous month.
The underlying inflation indicator (total index excluding unprocessed, food and energy products) recorded a year-on-year change of 0.6 percent, 0.3 percentage points lower than in January.
The aggregate for unprocessed food products registered a year-on-year change of -0.1 percent in February (0.8 percent in January), while the rate on energy products decreased to 1.6 percent (2.3 percent in the previous month).
In terms of expenditure categories and in relation to the previous month, INE noted increases in the annual rate of change in clothing and footwear and health, with -2.4 percent and 1.0 percent, respectively (-4.7 percent and 0.7 percent the previous month).
The year-on-year rate of change in the categories of transport and alcoholic beverages and tobacco fell by 1.0 percent and 0.7 percent, respectively (3.2 percent and 2.3 percent the previous month).
In February, the monthly CPI variation was -0.7 percent (-1.0 percent the previous month and -0.2 percent in February 2017).
The average variation over the last twelve months was 1.3 percent, the same rate as the previous month.
The Portuguese Harmonised Consumer Price Index (HICP) registered a year-on-year change of 0.7 percent, 0.4 percentage points lower than the previous month and 0.5 percentage points lower than the Eurostat estimate for the Euro Zone ( in January, the year-on-year change in the Portuguese HICP was 0.2 percentage points lower than the Euro Zone).
The HICP recorded a monthly variation of -0.6 percent (-1.2 percent the previous month and -0.2 percent in February 2017) and an average variation over the last twelve months of 1.5 percent (the same as the figure recorded in January).
