According to newspaper Correio da Manhã the tourist says he was forced to hand over his bankcard PIN numbers and had €600 stolen from him.

A police source told the publication the incident happened during the early hours of Wednesday morning at around 3.30am after the man met a woman in Cais do Sodré.

A third suspect reportedly entered the taxi a short while into the journey and, along with the driver and the woman, forced the tourist to hand over his wallet and mobile phone before withdrawing cash from his accounts at ATM machines.

He was then reportedly dumped next to a motorway some two hours later.
